“We want to build a community where foreigners can learn German in Hamburg with native speakers. I have lived abroad, and I know exactly how difficult it can be to get in contact with the locals.”
The lead Ambassador of Swap Language in Hamburg, Sebastian, is proud of the community he is building up in his city. Swap Language Communities are exploding all over Europe and also in Hamburg. 8 brave new Ambassadors decided to start a Swap Language Community in Hamburg. And just as we have seen in all the other cities – it’s taking off!
Between 80 – 150 exciting and interesting guests show up for the meetings to learn German and many other languages. It is like a playground of languages, where the only limit is when you have to go home.
So, what does the local Germans get out of joining Swap Language?
“Us Germans get a unique opportunity to meet people from all around the world in our own city. We can easily forget that there are others because we hang out with our German friends,” Sebastian explains.
Where, what and how?
Sebastian and the rest of the Swap Language Ambassadors are hosting Swap Language Nights every second Monday in the heart of Hamburg. The place is called Stay Generator, a hostel with a big lounge area right next to the train station. The Swap Language Night starts at 7 PM and ends at 10 PM so you have plenty of time to learn German with locals.
Free sponsored beers and a fantastic venue
Since they started, both local and international organizations have been eager to support the Community.
